Critical Role Campaign 4 Unveils the Fighters Table

From the very beginning of Campaign 4, recently appointed game master Brennan Mulligan has maintained audience suspense with extensive world-building, a colorful mix of personalities, and a thrilling plot featuring angels, evil spirits, and dark forces expanding in influence within the urban setting.

Heads-up: Revealing details for Episode 3 of this adventure are included.

The Combat-Oriented Party Revealed

Episode 3 concluded with a dramatic pause and presented the initial group of characters who will branch out from the main group to begin their independent quest, separate from the other two tables.

The Soldiers table includes the determined fighter (played by Travis), Thimble (the talented performer), the strong-willed figure (the cast member), the cleric (Sam Riegel), and Kattigan Vale (the actor).

Why Split the Party?

Given a large ensemble, it was evident from the outset that having everyone at one table would be unworkable.

That’s why, the initial installments of the new season serve as an Prelude, intertwining the characters’ stories before dividing into three distinct groups: Soldiers, Strategists, and Questers.

What Defines the Soldiers Table

According to Brennan Lee Mulligan, the combat-focused party is for players who prefer a classically intense combat and conflict-driven story mode where non-violent answers are rare.

Upon first impression, figures such as the hesitant healer the cleric might appear unsuited, but the events of episode 3 show why these specific adventurers are ideally matched for the warrior group.

Motivations for Departure

First, the team knows exactly where to proceed after a intense initial meeting with the enemy group.

A former ally of Thjazi—whose death started the campaign’s events—used the foes for his own means, entering the hidden lair, assaulting the character, and taking all the enchanted items to auction.

The antagonist then settled his liabilities and ran away to a secure base in Gormalay, Timmony, above Dol-Makjar, with Teor’s brother pursuing him.

Character Drivers

Additionally, each character has a specific drive to exit the urban setting:

  • The agile hero, as the close ally and best friend, seeks retribution.
  • Kattigan is familiar with the northern area and advises that it is a dangerous location.
  • The strong character and Wicander, having resisted his relatives’ demands to execute Teor and instead freed him, have nowhere else to go.
  • But, their status as prominent individuals in the influential clan could assist the group access areas they usually can’t.
  • Furthermore, Teor pledged a life debt to The cleric for his rescue and will now go with him anywhere.

Wanted and Hunted

In addition, all of them are sought by the rulers that control the setting for a variety of reasons, making staying in the city too risky:

  • The rogue and The character are recognized lawbreakers.
  • Tyranny and Wicander turned against the influential house and the army of fiends they are partnered with.
  • Teor is marked for death by the family.

This leaves them no alternative but to journey toward Timmony in pursuit of Casimir.

Upcoming Developments

According to the latest episode’s Cooldown, we learn that the combat party will not appear next week, leaving the remaining eight cast members to assemble the Explorers and Schemers groups.

Viewers can expect discovering which adventurers will be assigned to which table in the season’s concluding setup installment, released on the upcoming Thursday.
