Paris Saint-Germain Defeats Marseille on Penalties to Secure French Super Cup in the Middle East.

Trophy celebration scene

PSG has now won the prestigious cup on 14 different occasions.

Paris Saint-Germain needed a stoppage-time leveler followed by a successful penalty shootout to get past their arch-rivals in Kuwait and secure a record-extending fourth consecutive Trophee des Champions title.

The Champions League holders appeared to be sailing towards a straightforward triumph in the match featuring the Ligue 1 champions and the French Cup winners after Ousmane Dembele opened the scoring early on.

Yet, the southern French side fired twice late to seize a shock advantage. Initially, Mason Greenwood scored from the spot-kick, before the defender unfortunately directed the ball into his own net for an own goal.

In a breathtaking turn of events, Goncalo Ramos snatched a crucial equaliser in the final seconds to force the contest into a deciding shootout. PSG goalkeeper Chevalier then emerged as the hero, saving decisive attempts from Matt O'Riley and Hamed Traore.

From the spot, Ramos, the midfielder, Nuno Mendes, and Desire Doue all converted with composure for Paris Saint-Germain to complete a convincing shootout win.

Now 14-time champions Paris Saint-Germain, who faced last season's Ligue 1 runners-up Marseille after completing a league and cup double, have now lifted this trophy for the twelfth time in the past thirteen years.
